All About Heroin

Subject:
Heroin
Minutes Long:

This videotape is going to tell you all about Heroin. Heroin is made from morphine, which is extracted from the seedpods of certain types of poppy plants. Morphine was known for centuries as a very effective, but very addicting painkiller. In 1847 scientists at the Bayer pharmaceutical company were trying to make morphine less addictive. They tinkered with it and made di-acetyl morphine, which turned out to be two to three times more addicting than morphine. They called it Heroin. It’s more addicting than morphine because it gets into the brain faster.
