Hidden: Elder Abuse in Aboriginal Communities

Abuse - Bullying
Minutes Long:

Elder Abuse- it’s a hidden and poorly understood form of abuse that hurts individuals and destroys families. And it happens in Aboriginal communities, where the past traumas from the residential school system often play out in intergenerational abuse.  Hidden: Elder Abuse in Aboriginal Communities, Bear Paw Media Productions looks at intergenerational abuse and how it eats away at the fabric of families, while also showing how patterns of abuse can be turned around through restorative justice, the legal system and combinations of the two. Featuring a dramatized story about an abuse-ridden family intercut with real-life experiences and wisdom from Aboriginals seniors and community professionals, this video is intended to be a starting point for families to talk about abuse and start the healing process.   2011
